What's shaping the year ahead

• Ampol's purchase of EG Australia (about 500 sites, roughly A$1.1 billion) was cleared by the ACCC on 3 June 2026, with 41 sites to be sold to Dib Group and Metro. Divestments like this put established sites on the market.
• Viva Energy owns the Reddy Express and OTR convenience networks, and Seven & i bought 7-Eleven Australia in 2024 (about A$1.71 billion): convenience scale is consolidating.
• 368,172 battery and fuel-cell electric vehicles were registered at 31 January 2026 (BITRE): about 1.7% of cars and utes, up 42% in a year, and far higher in some inner-city postcodes than in the regions. Sites that add charging or strong shop and food sales are best placed as fuel volumes shift.
• The ACCC put the five-city average petrol price at 180.4 cents a litre in the December 2025 quarter.
